Caspah

Google Flow Sessions

Created as part of Google’s Flow Sessions — an initiative inviting independent filmmakers to explore the creative potential of Flow, Google’s new AI video tool — Caspah reimagines scary movies through a deeply personal lens. Continuing a narrative structure established in my film Hairy Pouter, Caspah follows a playful conversation with my grandmother about some of her favorite films, blending heartfelt humor and eerie nostalgia in equal measure.

Flow State

Rather than treating Flow as a creative partner, I approached it as a precision tool — one that could help me execute a vision I had already imagined in full detail. Every frame began with a clear creative intention, a clearly composed scene, and specific art direction communicated through a mix drawn images and detailed description. I then used Flow’s capabilities to realize my full vision efficiently, without ever surrendering authorship.

My goal wasn’t to highlight what AI can invent or to showcase the surreal, otherworldly imagery these tools are often celebrated for. Instead, I wanted to explore how faithfully it could execute an artist’s exact vision. So, after storyboarding key frames and crafting detailed reference images, I used Flow as a kind of digital choreographer — a means of directing motion and rhythm rather than generating unpredictable narratives.
